Queen!

Last December, I had the honor of serving as a judge for the Miss International Queen USA Pageant—one of the official preliminaries for the iconic international event in Thailand. The experience brought back so many fond memories! Back in 2006, I represented the USA alongside the fabulous Domanique Shappelle, who made it to the top 10. Although I placed 11th, just behind Miss Korea, it was an incredible time. How different it all was then! We were invited to apply and selected directly, but nowadays, the pageants are full-on productions. Imagine three whirlwind days of interviews, photoshoots, performances, and glam in Las Vegas, NV. It made me so proud to come full circle in the world of pageantry.

Looking back, my journey through these competitions has been nothing short of transformative. Winning titles like Catwalk, Model Search, Queen USA, and Queen Universe brought so much joy and growth. Even the challenges—like answering final questions onstage—taught me resilience. I remember once being asked about the importance of pageants in the transgender community. Pageants, to me, offer a platform—a way to tell our stories, inspire others, and embrace every part of ourselves while tackling the ever-present scrutiny head-on.

These photos by the fabulous Anneli Adolfsson remind me that while I didn’t win Miss International Queen, the experience remains one of the most life-changing chapters of my life. More than a competition, it’s built a global sisterhood I’ll cherish forever.

To everyone out there dreaming of their crown: never stop growing—and always wear yours with pride. 👑✨
